Betty Bryden was born in 1948 and grew up in Endicott, NY. She attended art school in Boston and began creating and showing her own paintings and collages. Bryden founded the Red Hedgehog Gallery in Binghamton, and later moved it to Ogunquit, Maine. While in Maine, she was president and gallery director for Ogunquit Arts Association, and had a painting shown in "76 Maine Artists," a highly selective U.S. bicentennial exhibit at the Maine State Museum. Betty moved to the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania and married Tom Canouse in 1997. Together they co-founded an art gallery and a bookstore and became deeply involved in the arts community.
