Born in 1905, in Valencia, Venezuela, Leopoldo La Madriz received academic training in Caracas before returning to settle in his hometown. Most of his pictorial work refers to corners of Valencia and the countryside and towns of the state of Carabob. In 1966, Pascual Venegas Filardo described the work of this artist as "... the essence of his spirit poured into color and transformed into a theme of the distant land or the urban corner that is progressively disappearing." Leopoldo La Madriz died in Valencia on April 30, 1982.
